Warm-Up Set Calculator

Jumping straight to your working weight is how good sessions go sideways. A ramp wakes up the muscles, primes the nervous system, and lets you rehearse the bar path before it counts. Enter your working weight and bar weight above and the calculator returns a full ladder of warm-up sets, each one rounded to plates you can load on the bar.

What the ramp does

The calculator builds five steps toward your top weight: the empty bar for 5 reps, then 50% for 5, 70% for 3, 85% for 2, and 90% for a single. Reps drop as the load climbs, so you stay fresh for the work that matters. If a percentage lands at or below the bar weight, the calculator skips it, since loading less than an empty bar makes no sense.

Light weight first does real work. Blood moves into the muscle, joints run through their range, and your groove gets a few rehearsals before fatigue shows up. By the time you reach the working weight, the pattern feels automatic.

Why round to loadable plates

The math might say 112.5 of something, but your plates do not split that fine. The calculator rounds each set to the nearest jump you can build: 2.5 kg total in the metric set, which is one 1.25 kg plate per side, or 5 lb total in the imperial set, a 2.5 lb plate per side. Every number it gives you is a weight you can build from your plate set.

If you want to see the exact plates for any single set, the plate calculator breaks one number into a stack per side.

Fitting it to your day

Heavy singles and triples need a longer ramp than a set of ten at moderate weight. On a max-effort day, hold the percentages and reps the calculator gives you and rest a little longer before the top single. On lighter days you can cut the 90% step and start your working sets after the 85% double.

Not sure what your top weight should be? Run a set through the one-rep max calculator first, then bring that number here to build the warm-up around it.
