Connect Google Health Connect to Movement Rebels (Android)

Google Health Connect is Android's central hub for health and fitness data, the same role Apple Health plays on iPhone. Movement Rebels reads from it directly, so any workout your Android device or app records can reach the coach automatically.

What Health Connect is

Health Connect is a system-level data store built into Android. Fitness apps write their data there: your Garmin Connect Android app writes your runs and rides, Samsung Health writes your Samsung Watch sessions, Pixel Watch writes its workouts, and dozens of other apps do the same. Movement Rebels reads from that shared store with your permission.

The result is that you do not need to pick one app to sync from. If three apps all write to Health Connect, Movement Rebels sees all three.

What data flows in

Movement Rebels reads the following from Health Connect:

  • Workouts: type, duration, distance, calories
  • Heart rate: average and max per session, plus continuous heart rate where available
  • Steps and activity: daily step counts and active minutes
  • Body metrics: weight and body composition if your scale or app writes to Health Connect

What you actually get depends on what your apps and devices write. A Pixel Watch session typically includes heart rate zones and GPS data. A Samsung Watch session includes Samsung's training load metrics. A manual log from a third-party app may include only duration and sport type.

Setting up Health Connect

Open the Movement Rebels Android app. Go to Profile, then Integrations. Find the Google Health Connect card and tap Connect.

Android will show a permission screen listing the data types Movement Rebels wants to read. Select the ones you want to share and confirm. You can change these at any time in Android Settings under Privacy, Health Connect, App permissions, Movement Rebels.

Once connected, your recent history imports. New sessions appear in your log within seconds of syncing to any app that writes to Health Connect.

Health Connect needs to be installed

Health Connect comes pre-installed on Android 14 and later. On Android 13 it is available as a separate app from the Play Store. If the Movement Rebels app cannot find Health Connect, download it from Google Play first, then return to Profile, Integrations to connect.

How the coach uses your Health Connect data

Every session that comes in through Health Connect is treated the same as a Garmin or Wahoo session. The coach reads sport type, duration, heart rate, and load to build your weekly picture.

If you train with a Samsung Watch on Monday and a Garmin on Wednesday, both sessions appear in your log and the coach factors in both when planning Thursday. You do not need to pick one ecosystem.

Using Health Connect alongside other integrations

Health Connect and other integrations can run side by side. If you connect both Garmin (which syncs directly) and Health Connect (which also receives Garmin data via the Garmin Connect Android app), Movement Rebels deduplicates sessions so the same workout does not appear twice in your log.

Disconnecting Health Connect

Go to Profile, Integrations, open the Health Connect card and tap Disconnect. You can also revoke access from Android Settings under Privacy, Health Connect, App permissions. Either way, no new data syncs after that. Your existing history stays in your Movement Rebels log.
